PETROL RON 97 GOES UP TO RM 2.90 PER LITER

The Star, a Malaysian daily, reports that you'll be paying an extra 20 sen for premium petrol RON 97 from Thursday onwards. That's RM2.90 per litre.

Malaysian Petrol Dealers Association president Datuk Hashim Othman confirmed the price increase and said the removal of government subsidies for the said fuel has caused its price to fluctuate.

The rise of crude oil prices is no surprise. Hashim attributed that to natural disasters abroad and political unrest in the Middle East.

Prices did experience a modest dip after the announcement of terrorist leader Osama bin Laden's death, he noted.

The price of RON 95 petrol, on the other hand, will remain the same at RM1.90 per litre, he said. That petrol is subsidised by the government.
