Smartphones, tablets, and laptops—oh my! All you need to do is take a glance around next time you're in a crowded area to see the multiple ways people connect online and tap into just about anything. We live in a multi-screen world, and it's imperative for businesses to understand this.
The changing landscape is sweeping in quite fast, too. Smartphones are spreading faster than any technology before and tablets are gaining momentum as well. Not only are people buying more devices they can access the internet with, but more places are providing WiFi connections. Even when hitting the town with friends, someone can stroll into a bar and connect to the internet. Even places like fast food chains provide WiFi for customers.
The blog post also looks at Google and Iposos's study on how consumers search for products and information on their smartphones. The study found: 57 percent of Smartphone users search daily on their phones; 94 percent look for local info, and 90 percent take action after searching; 96 percent have researched a product or service on their phone; 80 percent of users visit social networks.
Percentages like that should be enough to get businesses evaluating not only their online presence, but their mobile presence. This multiple-screen engagement means people could be potentially trying to tap into your resources anytime and anywhere. It means you and your business needs to start asking questions—Are you on social media? Is your website mobile friendly? Do you have a smartphone app? Better yet, not only ask those questions, but act upon them.
As the great Ferris Bueller said, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it." With the multi-screen world we're in, the "it" for your business could be a sale or marketing opportunity. So, stop and look around, and spend some time and conduct your mobile presence evaluation before you miss your opportunity at business growth. Consumers have on-the-go access, and your business needs to acknowledge that.
