LANSING, MI -- The Gannett Co.-owned Lansing State Journal, a daily newspaper, will market its downtown offices for sale, the Lansing City Pulse reported Thursday afternoon.

The paper’s 87,000-square-foot headquarters, located at 120 E. Lenawee St., houses 159 employees, according to a story posted Thursday evening on the Lansing State Journal’s website; the offices will remain in use until the building sells.

“Our needs as an organization have changed since 1951 when we moved to our current location. I am excited about this opportunity to seek space more in line with our current business needs,” Lansing State Journal publisher Brian Priester said Thursday.

The Journal said it is moving to more digital delivery options.

The Lansing City Pulse reported that the paper’s print circulation continued to decline, citing April 2012 figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations, including a nearly 3 percent drop in weekly circulation and a more than 12 percent decline in Sunday circulation numbers compared to the previous reporting cycle.

The popular Gannett Blog reported the newspaper chain’s workforce contracted 1 percent in the past year, but noted it appeared to have cut 2,300 jobs from its community newspapers.
