Ξεκίνησε η παραγωγή του νέου Kuga

Η Ford έχει πουλήσει πάνω από 300.000 Kuga από το 2008 που λανσαρίστηκε το μοντέλο πρώτης γενιάς στην Ευρώπη. Το καινούργιο Kuga βασίζεται στην πλατφόρμα του νέου Focus και είναι πιο ευρύχωρο και με περισσότερες δυνατότητες διαμόρφωσης από το προηγούμενο.


Η παραγωγή του νέου Ford Kuga, που σηματοδοτεί την είσοδο της Ford Ευρώπης στην πολύ ανταγωνιστική αγορά crossover, ξεκίνησε στο εργοστάσιο της Ford στο Saarlouis, της Γερμανίας.

Η εταιρία σχεδιάζει να κατασκευάσει περίπου 45.000 μονάδες του νέου μοντέλου στο Saarlouis φέτος – που αντιστοιχούν σχεδόν στο 10% της ετήσιας δυναμικότητας παραγωγής του εργοστασίου.

H  Ford επένδυσε...
ένα πολύ σημαντικό ποσό σε νέες τεχνολογίες παραγωγής για να υποστηρίξει την παραγωγή του Kuga στο Saarlouis. Οι πωλήσεις του Kuga θα ξεκινήσουν σταδιακά σε όλες τις Ευρωπαϊκές αγορές λίγο αργότερα, μέσα στη φετινή χρονιά.

Το SUV της Ford είναι το τέταρτο μοντέλο που θα κατασκευάζεται στο Saarlouis τους τελευταίους 12 μήνες. Ακολουθεί το νέο Ford C-MAX το Μάρτιο του 2007, το νέο Ford Focus το Δεκέμβριο του 2007 και το νέο Ford Focus ST στις αρχές αυτού του μήνα.

Και με την εισαγωγή του Kuga, κατασκευάζονται τώρα στο Saarlouis, για πρώτη φορά, τρεις διαφορετικές σειρές μοντέλων ταυτόχρονα – Focus, C-MAX και Kuga.

Το Ford Kuga κατασκευάζεται αποκλειστικά στο Saarlouis και περίπου το 84% της παραγωγής θα εξάγεται σε συνολικά 32 διαφορετικές χώρες. Οι πέντε μεγαλύτερες αγορές πωλήσεων είναι: Γερμανία, Ιταλία, Βρετανία, Γαλλία και Ισπανία.

Πάνω από έντεκα εκατομμύρια οχήματα Ford έχουν κατασκευαστεί στο Saarlouis, από τις 16 Ιανουαρίου, 1970, που ξεκίνησε η λειτουργία του εργοστασίου. Τα Ford Escort (πάνω από 6,5 εκατομμύρια), Ford Capri, Ford Fiesta και Ford Orion κατασκευάστηκαν εκεί στο παρελθόν. Και το Ford Focus από το 1998.

Η Ford είναι η πρώτη αυτοκινητοβιομηχανία που κατέκτησε έξι διαφορετικές διακρίσεις Euro NCAP Advanced για την εξαιρετική τεχνολογική καινοτομία της, με τα βραβεία που της χάρισαν το MyKey στο νέο Fiesta και το SYNC με Κλήση Έκτακτης Ανάγκης στο νέο B-MAX, το νέο Fiesta, C-MAX, το Focus και το νέο Kuga.

με πέντε αστέρια για το Ford Kuga και το νέο Fiesta από τον ανεξάρτητο οργανισμό ασφάλειας οχημάτων Euro NCAP στον τελευταίο κύκλο crash tests.

«Το MyKey και το SYNC με Κλήση Έκτακτης Ανάγκης δεν είναι απλά νέες τεχνολογίες της Ford στην Ευρώπη, αλλά χρησιμοποιούνται για πρώτη φορά σε μικρά αυτοκίνητα» δήλωσε ο Andrew Johnson, Supervisor, Automotive Safety Office, Ford Ευρώπης. «Χαιρόμαστε που το Euro NCAP αναγνωρίζει την προσπάθειά μας να κάνουμε αυτές τις λειτουργίες προσιτές σε όλο και περισσότερους πελάτες».

Η τεχνολογία MyKey του νέου Fiesta επιτρέπει στους γονείς να θέτουν ορισμένους περιορισμούς στους νεαρούς οδηγούς με σκοπό την ασφαλέστερη οδήγηση, περιορίζοντας την τελική ταχύτητα του αυτοκινήτου και μειώνοντας τη μέγιστη ένταση του ηχοσυστήματος. Επίσης, προσφέρει πιο έγκαιρες προειδοποιήσεις χαμηλής στάθμης καυσίμου, εμποδίζει την απενεργοποίηση λειτουργιών ασφάλειας όπως Electronic Stability Control και Active City Stop, και απενεργοποιεί τον ήχο του ηχοσυστήματος εάν οι εμπρός επιβάτες δεν έχουν δέσει τις ζώνες τους.

Σε περίπτωση ατυχήματος, το SYNC με Κλήση Έκτακτης Ανάγκης βοηθά τους επιβάτες του B-MAX να καλέσουν τις τοπικές υπηρεσίες επείγουσας ανάγκης, σε 26 γλώσσες που μιλιούνται σε 40 περιοχές της Ευρώπης. Το σύστημα χρησιμοποιεί πληροφορίες από την ενσωματωμένη μονάδα GPS, χάρτες και το δίκτυο κινητής τηλεφωνίας προκειμένου να εντοπίσει το σημείο του ατυχήματος και καλεί τις υπηρεσίες επείγουσας ανάγκης, μέσω συνδεδεμένου κινητού τηλεφώνου Bluetooth του χρήστη. Η τεχνολογία αυτή διατίθεται επίσης με το νέο Fiesta, το C-MAX, Focus και το νέο Kuga

Η Ford έχει ήδη κερδίσει βραβεία Euro NCAP Advanced για το Active City Stop, ένα σύστημα ασφάλειας σχεδιασμένο για να βοηθά τους οδηγούς να αποφεύγουν τις συγκρούσεις με μικρή ταχύτητα – με το νέο B-MAX και Focus. Το Ford Focus έχει κατακτήσει αντίστοιχες διακρίσεις με τα Driver Alert, Forward Alert και Lane Keeping Aid

«Τα βραβεία Euro NCAP Advanced αναγνωρίζουν τις κορυφαίες καινοτομίες στον τομέα της ασφάλειας» δήλωσε ο Michiel van Ratingen, γενικός γραμματέας του Euro NCAP. «Η Ford έχει αποδείξει τη δέσμευσή της να κάνει τα προηγμένα χαρακτηριστικά ασφάλειας διαθέσιμα σε μία ευρεία γκάμα οχημάτων και αξίζει όλες τις διακρίσεις».

Τα πέντε αστέρια Euro NCAP του νέου Kuga προήλθαν από ένα συνολικό σκορ 88% για τη συνολική προστασία – η υψηλότερη βαθμολογία στα μεσαία SUV. Η αναλυτική βαθμολογία διαμορφώθηκε ως εξής: 94% για την προστασία ενηλίκων και 86% για την προστασία των παιδιών. Το νέο Kuga διαθέτει επίσης SYNC με Κλήση Έκτακτης Ανάγκης, Active City Stop και Blind Spot Information System που ενεργοποιεί μία προειδοποιητική λυχνία στον εξωτερικό καθρέφτη για πιθανό κίνδυνο στο τυφλό σημείο του οδηγού.

Το νέο Fiesta συγκέντρωσε το 83% σε επίπεδο συνολικής προστασίας και βαθμολογήθηκε με πέντε αστέρια Euro NCAP, και ειδικότερα με 91% για την προστασία των ενηλίκων και 86% για την προστασία των παιδιών. Εκτός από το ντεμπούτο του MyKey, προσφέρει για πρώτη φορά στην κατηγορία, Active City Stop, SYNC με Κλήση Έκτακτης Ανάγκης και αμάξωμα που αποτελείται από ατσάλια υψηλής και υπερυψηλής αντοχής σε ποσοστό 50% για πρόσθετη προστασία σε ένα ατύχημα.

1.000 χιλιόμετρα με κόστος κάτω από €50

Χώρες όπως η Ελβετία βρέθηκαν αντιμέτωπες με μία τεράστια αύξηση ύψους 28% στο κόστος βενζίνης και 32% στις τιμές diesel στο διάστημα μεταξύ Ιουνίου και Αυγούστου φέτος. Στην Αυστρία, Γερμανία και Ισπανία σημειώθηκαν επίσης αυξήσεις της τάξης του 10% την ίδια χρονική περίοδο.

Η Νορβηγία και η Ιταλία παραμένουν οι...

ακριβότερες και σε κόστος βενζίνης και diesel, με τους Νορβηγούς να πληρώνουν πάνω από 2 Ευρώ το λίτρο για την απλή αμόλυβδη βενζίνη.

Εύλογο είναι ο κόσμος πλέον να είναι πιο προσεκτικός με το αυτοκίνητο που οδηγεί και να υπολογίζει πόσο επηρεάζεται ο εβδομαδιαίος προϋπολογισμός του.

Ένα αυτοκίνητο που καίει 7 λίτρ. /100 χλμ. σε μία χώρα όπως η Βρετανία θα χρειάζεται περίπου 1.240 Ευρώ σε καύσιμο για μία απόσταση 10.000 χλμ. με σημερινές τιμές. Μόλις πριν από τρία χρόνια, στο ξεκίνημα της παγκόσμιας οικονομικής ύφεσης, το κόστος θα ήταν σχεδόν 377 λιγότερο, δηλαδή στα 868 Ευρώ. Πριν από δέκα χρόνια, το ετήσιο κόστος καυσίμου θα ήταν 662 Ευρώ.

Όμως οι μισθοί έχουν σχεδόν διπλασιαστεί από το 2002; Προφανώς όχι.

Το τελευταίο μοντέλο Fiesta ECOnetic Technology, που υιοθετεί προηγμένα χαρακτηριστικά όπως Auto-Start-Stop και Smart Regenerative Charging πετυχαίνει εκπομπές CO2 μόλις 87γραμ./χλμ.

Για να γίνει ακόμα σαφέστερη αυτή η απόδοση καυσίμου, η αντίστοιχη κατανάλωση είναι μόλις 3,3 λίτρ. /100 χλμ. Με βάση τη σημερινή μέση τιμή diesel / λίτρο στην Ευρώπη, ο οδηγός ενός Fiesta ECOnetic Technology μπορεί να διανύσει 1000 χλμ. με 49,60 Ευρώ.

Όμως και τα βενζινοκίνητα μοντέλα γίνονται εξίσου ανταγωνιστικά, χάρη στον επαναστατικό 1000άρη βενζινοκινητήρα EcoBoost της Ford που τώρα θα διατίθεται με το Fiesta, ζητώντας μέχρι 4,3 λίτρ./100 χλμ.

Με αυτό τον κινητήρα, που πρόσφατα ανακηρύχθηκε ‘Διεθνής Κινητήρας της Χρονιάς 2012’, το νέο Fiesta θα διανύει 1000 χλμ. με 69,10 Ευρώ.

Η βενζίνη είναι ακριβότερη από το diesel στις 24 από τις 27 χώρες της Ευρώπης, αλλά συγκριτικά με μεγαλύτερους βενζινοκινητήρες με παρόμοια ιπποδύναμη, το Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost μπορεί να περιορίσει το κόστος καυσίμου κατά ένα τρίτο, χωρίς θυσίες στην οδηγησιμότητα.

Με 50 Ευρώ diesel μπορείτε να οδηγήσετε την απόσταση των 484 χλμ. από την Κολωνία, την πατρίδα του Fiesta, μέχρι το Παρίσι, την πιο ρομαντική πρωτεύουσα της Ευρώπης, να επιστρέψετε στην Κολωνία, έχοντας και περίσσεια καυσίμου.

Το ανανεωμένο Ford Fiesta έχει μπει ήδη στην γραμμή παραγωγής

Η Ford ξεκίνησε τη μαζική παραγωγή του ανανεωμένου Fiesta στο εργοστάσιό της στην Κολωνία. Η νέα πρόταση Fiesta συνδυάζει δυναμικό στυλ, νέες έξυπνες τεχνολογίες και μία νεα γκάμα κινητήρων.

«Το ανανεωμένο Fiesta προσφέρει επτά εκδόσεις κινητήρων....

– diesel και βενζίνης – με οικονομική κατανάλωση και εκπομπές κάτω από 100 γραμ. CO2 / χλμ» δήλωσε ο Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford Ευρώπης.

Protecting youngsters is just the start for Ford's MyKey system

A SAFETY feature fitted to Fords in the States will be arriving from across the Atlantic next month in a bid to prevent younger drivers being involved in accidents.

The MyKey system, which will be fitted as standard on most models in the Fiesta range from next month, allows parents to alter the car's settings to make it safer when their children borrow it, and includes the option to restrict the top speed, to limit how loud the stereo system is, or to disable the audio altogether if seatbelts aren't being used.

I reckon, however, that MyKey could be used for all sorts of things beyond merely protecting youngsters from themselves. Here’s some of my own suggestions for extending the system:

Parent Mode: As per the normal MyKey system, but with an additional, disabled set of pedals in the passenger footwell for those moments when you never know whether your loved one is going to brake or not.

Audi Mode: Uses a form of radar-guided cruise control to automatically reduce all motorway following gaps to three feet. Minimum speed set to 90mph.

Tiff Mode: Switches all traction control systems off.

Gangster Lean Mode: Automatically maximises driver’s seat recline and darkens the windows. Maximum speed reduced to 8mph. Stereo preset to loudest volume.

Alfa Mode: Redirects all electronics so as to be operable by the passenger window switch alone.

Hire Car Mode: Doubles maximum speed, rev limit and optimum cornering speed. Only available on fleet cars sold to Avis, Hertz, etc.

Bond Mode: Activates the machine guns and nail dispensers

Roger Moore Mode: As per the Bond Mode, but with added eyebrows.

IKEA mode: Quadruples boot space.

TVR Mode: Automatically blanks off every interior button and reorganises them in an order completely incomprehensible to all human beings. Except, perhaps, TVR owners.

Ford GT sets 283 mph Guinness World Record for top speed

A custom Ford GT has managed to hit 283.232 mph (455.82 km/h) in a standing mile at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center on NASA’s Shuttle Landing Facility runway. Created by Performance Power Racing, this heavily modified street-legal Ford GT features two turbos and various components made from “pandalloy”. This is an aerospace aluminum alloy developed in collaboration with Pratt & Whitney which is perfect for racing applications thanks to characteristics like reduced weight, high strength and temperature resistance. Pumping out 1,700 hp (1267 kW), this Ford GT has set the Guinness World Record for top speed in a street-legal car by reaching a Tag Heuer-measured 283.232 mph in 5,280 feet (1,609 meters).

2013 Shelby GT500 Super Snake

Shelby American has unveiled their Super Snake package for the 2013 Ford Mustang GT500. Set to be showcased at the Barrett-Jackson collector car auction in Las Vegas, the car features a fiberglass hood, a Borla exhaust and 20-inch alloy wheels with high-performance tires. There's also a sport-tuned suspension, Wilwood brakes and an upgraded cooling system. The model can also be equipped with an optional 13-inch wide rear tire and wheel package which was featured on the Carroll Shelby Tribute car that debuted at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Interior changes are limited but include embroidered headrests and floor mats as well as other "Shelby-designed components." The entry-level model has a supercharged 5.8-liter V8 engine that develops 662 hp (494 kW / 671 PS) and 631 lb-ft (855 Nm) of torque. If that's not powerful enough, the engine can be equipped with a Whipple or Kenne Bell supercharger that enables it to produce a staggering 850 hp (634 kW / 862 PS). Production will be limited to 500 units and pricing starts at $28,995 for the entry-level package. Moving up to the high-performance variant costs a wallet busting $39,995.

Ford Mondeo by Loder1899

The 2013 Ford Mondeo is set to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, but that hasn't stopped Loder1899 from creating a new styling package for the current model. Starting with the exterior, the car can be equipped with a front lip spoiler, a rear diffuser and a stainless steel sports exhaust system. Customers can also order a lowering kit (which reduces the ride height by 35mm) and 18- / 20-inch alloy wheels. For added performance, models with the 2.2-liter TDCI engine can be tuned to develop 244 PS (179 kW / 241 hp) and 490 Nm (361 lb-ft) of torque - an increase of 44 PS (32 kW / 43 hp) and 70 Nm (52 lb-ft).

Odelzhausen/Munich, 12th June 2012 As the current Ford Mondeo comes to the end of its natural life cycle, the new one is already positioning itself on the starting grid. Known in the US as the Ford Fusion its already causing quite a stir among automotive enthusiasts.
"Parting is such sweet sorrow" the team at Loder1899 thought and decided to sweeten its leave-taking a little. Their aim, as always, to optimize the vehicle´s performance and looks. They started by mounting a cup-spoiler in the front mirroring this at the back with an aggressive rear diffuser and roof spoiler. Wheels and chassis improvements as a modification of a two branch stainless steel exhaust system. Performance enhancements are also available for all diesel models.

 

 

2013 Shelby GT350 revealed

Shelby American has unveiled the 2013 GT350. Available as a coupe or convertible, the updated model features Recaro seats, a new rear valance, restyled wheels and an extended color palette. The car can also be equipped with an optional panoramic glass roof. Power comes from a naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine that produces 430 hp (321 kW / 436 PS). If that's not enough, the engine can be equipped with a supercharger that enables it to develop 525 hp (391 kW / 532 PS) or 624 hp (465 kW / 633 PS). A six-speed manual is standard, but a six-speed automatic is optional on cars equipped with the naturally-aspirated V8. Customers can also order a one-piece driveshaft, a cold air intake, high-performance brakes and a color-coordinated billet aluminum engine cap set. Production will be limited to 350 units and pricing starts at $26,995 (€21,305 / £17,210) - not including the base price of the Ford Mustang GT.

LAS VEGAS - June 28, 2012 - Shelby American, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. (CSBI:PK), has announced the changes for its limited edition 2013 Shelby GT350. New color options, visual styling cues and optional performance upgrades will distinguish the third model year of Shelby GT350 production from previous model year cars. The 2013 Shelby GT350 will be available as either a coupe or convertible in the entire color palette offered by Ford Motor Company on the Mustang.
"The Shelby GT350 is one of the world's most celebrated and iconic modern muscle cars," said John Luft, president of Shelby American. "For the third model year of the contemporary Shelby GT350, we've further refined the car with options and equipment requested by enthusiasts. The Shelby American team is following Carroll Shelby's playbook to continue building high performance cars and parts designed to keep our customers at the front of the fast lane."
For the first (2011) model year Shelby GT350, the coupes were clad in white with blue stripes, just as Shelby American did with the initial car in 1965. In 2012, three more colors (red, blue and anniversary black/gold), as well as a convertible option were offered; this is similar to the options offered by Shelby American in 1966.
For the 2013 model year, Shelby American again matches tradition with expanded color options, equipment choices and styling changes, while performance improvements remain intact. The GT350 will be available in all of Ford's standard colors offered on the Mustang: Grabber Blue, Sterling Gray Metallic, "Gotta Have It" Green, Candy Red Tint Coat Metallic, Ingot Silver Metallic, "Deep Impact" Blue Metallic (replaces Kona Blue Metallic), Race Red, Performance White and Black. Customers can choose between Satin Black or Gloss White stripes (a first since 1970) or Azure Blue Metallic on Performance White and Ingot Silver Metallic vehicles to be paired with new wheels in Satin Black or Bright Silver Metallic. Other styling cues for 2013 include a glass roof option, Recaro Seats and a modified custom rear valance.
"The Shelby GT350's rich history is well-documented," added Shelby American Vice President of Production Gary Davis. "People who value that heritage asked us to repeat Shelby history with new options this year. We did that and stayed true to our commitment for performance with a no-comprise car that honors Carroll Shelby and our past."
The Shelby GT350 is a post-title program based on the Ford Mustang GT. The 2013 Shelby GT350 performance specs will be continued from the 2012 model year. Customers can choose a 430 HP normally aspirated, and either a Ford Racing supercharged 525 HP or 624 HP version. An automatic transmission is optional with the normally aspirated engine, while a short throw shifter is standard for the manual on any of the models. For 2013, options include a one piece drive shaft, more powerful brakes, cooling enhancements, interior upgrades and a color coordinated billet aluminum engine cap set. A new cold air package for the normally aspirated engine will be available to boost the GT350's output to about 450 horsepower.
The 2013 Shelby GT350 post-title package starts at $26,995.00 (normally aspirated) and $33,995.00 (supercharged), not including the base car. Only 350 of the cars will be built, all at the Shelby American factory in Las Vegas. 2012 GT350's are still available with great incentive's being offered for the base vehicle by Ford. It's Sportage versus Focus in the Champion family car battle

AFTER several months of of fruitless debates I'm finally able to put a longstanding argument at the Champion offices to bed. Focus or Sportage - which is better?

It all started earlier this year when one of the office petrolheads asked what's the best new car money can buy, provided you're a family man with roughly £18,000 to throw at your pride and joy. Easy, I reckoned. If you want a family car that's fun, comfy, roomy, good value and is either very good or brilliant at just about everything, then really Ford's Focus is the best bet. The end.

But I was met with a slightly exasperated look. How, the man from the Champion production department suggested, could I seriously reccommend the Focus over Kia's Sportage? Had I gone mad?

So it went on, but to be honest there was one very good reason why I couldn't suggest the Sportage - until this time last week, I hadn't driven one. That was until last week, when at a media test driving day in Yorkshire I finally got a go behind the elusive Korean contender and, for good measure, the clever new 1.0 litre Ecoboost version of the Focus too.

To be fair, the Focus and the Sportage are both very different beasts - one's a good ol' fashioned five-door hatch, while the other's a sort of pseudo-off roader - but if it's a straight cut question of which you'd splash your eighteen grand on, it's a much closer call than you'd think. The Sportage is never going to thrill you a windy road the way a Focus will, but it handles that side of things surprisingly well before pulling out its trump card - the sort of headroom, legroom, and boot space Focus Man would kill for, and it looks good too, in a slightly over-chromed, chintzy sort of way. It's a good car. Annoyingly, verge-of-argument-losingly good, in fact.

Not that I'm going to concede defeat that easily of course. The Focus scores highly on the sort of the things I look for in a car - ride, handling, comfort, gadgets and so on - but if you put style, value for money and a cavernous interior at the top of your shopping list, then the Sportage is the easy winner. Call it an honourable draw.

Obviously it's your call, but I know what I'd go for if I had £18,000 to throw on a family motor. The Skoda Yeti, come to think of it.

2013 Roush Stage 3 Mustang

Roush has quietly unveiled their new tuning packages for the 2013 Ford Mustang.Starting with the Stage 1 package, the tuner installs an aerodynamic body kit with a front splitter, a revised grille and a hood scoop. There's also a rear spoiler, extended side skirts and a rear diffuser insert. The Stage 2 package adds a sport-tuned suspension with new springs, twin-tube shocks and a larger front stabilizer bar. There's also 18-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in Cooper RS3 high-performance tires. Lastly, the Stage 3 Mustang includes all the aforementioned equipment as well as a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine with 565 hp (421 kW / 573 PS) and 505 lb-ft (683 Nm) of torque. Inside, the cabin has unique instrumentation, embroidered floor mats and special badging. The 2013 Roush Mustangs will start arriving at dealerships later this month and they will have a 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Petrolhead heaven in North Wales

TWO rather tidy Rover SD1s, several confused-looking sheep, a charming countryside cottage ironically called The Ugly House and a disused viaduct stuck halfway up a mountain.

These are just some of the sights I’ve clocked on a bit of a petrolhead tour of North Wales, which saw a Mazda MX-5 (driven by Yours Truly), a Ford Racing Puma and a diesel Saab 9-3 (it’s the economy, stupid) pitted against some of the windiest roads I could find in the AA road atlas I’d bought three days earlier.

More importantly, what I saw a lot of on these trips is mile after mile of deserted tarmac, criss-crossing remote bits of moorland in the middle of nowhere in particular. If you’re really, really keen on driving then the words Croeso i Gymru should bring a smile to your face!

Admittedly, the staff at the bar in Betws-y-Coed we always stay at on these trips are probably getting familiar with our faces by now, but I’m always happy to chuck a few quid at the Welsh economy given what we always get in return. In this case, it was heading up the back road towards Ffestiniog, turning a corner and being greeted with a glorious panorama of the countryside stretching out for miles below us, a faint blue sky above us and the Irish Sea somewhere in between.  Staggeringly beautiful scenes like these are what motoring through Wales is all about.

Then of course, there’s the driving itself, which as long as you stay beneath the speed limits and keep an eye out for the real troublemakers of rural driving – sheep and hairpin bends – is truly good fun. At one point on the Evo Triangle (if you haven’t heard of it, Google it) we got overtaken by a souped-up Subaru Impreza, a MINI Cooper GP and a Porsche Boxster S and I don’t think any of us were particularly bothered, because even at sensible speeds we were loving every minute.

These roads were enjoyable even in a diesel Saab (especially if you’ve got the smug factor of overtaking just about everything and getting 50.3 to the gallon while you’re at it) so you can imagine how much of a ball it would have been in a Ford Racing Puma and an MX-5 with its roof down.

I know I’ve said it before but it’s worth saying again - if you like your driving there really are some stunning roads that aren’t a million miles away. Get out there and give them a go – you won’t regret it!
