IT'S nearly that time of year again. Yep, the bit when a special festive edition of the Life On Cars magazine arrives.
As usual, it's a bit of a rundown of some of the best bits of 2012, including the not-at-all-prestigious announcement of what the best car Life On Cars has driven over the past few months is.
There have been dozens of great new cars this year, but to be in with a chance of being named Car of The Year it'll have to be at least as good as the current Ford Fiesta, the Honda CR-Z and the Citroen DS3 Racing (the winners in 2009, 2010 and 2011 respectively). Even though I can only show you the cover at the moment, so far the signs are looking very good.
You can also catch up on all the old magazines - including the 2010 and 2011 Christmas specials and the current edition - by visiting the Magazines section of this blog.
The new edition will be in ready in time for Christmas...

Best compliment of the month, and honorable mention from Thom Taylor in Hot Rod Magazine
OK, he did mistake this blogspot.com for a .com but that can be taken as a compliment too... I mean, anyone thinking that my content quality and quantity are easily mistaken for a website (.com) and overlook that this is a "made in the garage" blog, in my spare time, are welcome to just enjoy it and possibly think it's a professionally made, full time, team effort.
That would be fine. It's just me after work, and on weekends.
I'm so stoked!
It's far out that such a recognized Hot Rod authority (Hot Rod and Grand National Roadster Show Halls of Fame) and person of impeccable taste likes my site enough to give it an honorable mention in the icon of hot rodding publications. And if anyone looks up Justacarguy.com on Google they'll find this blogspot.com and enjoy
If you haven't run across Thom Taylor's name and reputation in the past, here is a quick bio after this link http://dev.motorburg.com/?page_id=128
Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, and taught there later in life. He has designed at least 4 of the America's Most Beautiful Roadster winners, and at least one Ridler award winner
If you are new to looking at my site, I hope you enjoy browsing, and if there is something particular you are looking for, then go through the 1000 to 1100 tags running alphabetically down the right hand side of this site to the word for what you are interested in, click on it, and hang on for the ride.
I recommend that if you just have a couple minutes, you've come to the right place. Look at http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2010/03/best-of-archives.html
and http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2012/01/best-posts-my-favorite-stories-from.html for the posts that I think are the most interesting of all the 10300 I've made.
Or for a lot of humor, about 809 posts of funny stuff http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/search/label/humor
Signing off with, thank you Thom!

Glen made a scrapbook in 1939, just before graduating high school and enlisting in the Army or Air Force, he never saw action overseas, but fixed a hell of a lot of airplanes... coincidentally his passion as you'll see from some of his scrap book.
Above, the Zeppelin Hindenburg flying over New York on her maiden voyage
Above, the Airacuda... cool name! Never heard of it before, looks effin cool
Lastly, here are a few photos of Glen, motorcyclist, member of the High Boots MC, WW2 airplane mechanic (busted his leg getting hit by a car when pushing his motorcycle, so had to wear a thigh to ankle cast for 18 months. Have no idea how he kept from cutting that off after a month or two. He made a sidecar for his motorcycle so he could be mobile, as his cast wouldn't allow him to drive a car) due to the leg damage, he wasn't sent out of CONUS

Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, not only changed to a recognizable hat from the African ashente, but has a new video "I Gotsta Get Paid" with 4 hot rods... one is a So Cal Speedshop hot rod that I found at SEMA
from the gallery I just posted a couple days ago: http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2012/11/nice-hot-rod-i-didnt-see-anything-on-it.html
the above is the "Whiskey Runner" that Billy had the So Cal Speedshop make
images from the So Cal Speedshop via http://www.rodauthority.com/news/so-cal-speed-shop-building-zz-tops-billy-gibbons-wiskeyrunner/
This video got me wondering about what is new in the BFG car collection, and I came across an online magazine I've never heard of http://www.powerblocktv.com/mag/index.php where you can read a long interview with videos where they talk hot rods with the force behind the cars you already know, (Eliminator coupe, Cadzilla) and some you haven't learned of yet
here is a look at the other incredible coverage that Power Block magazine has had http://www.powerblocktv.com/mag/index.php
This post wouldn't have happened without George's point out that the car I posted a couple days ago was in the music video... thanks to George of dWrenched.com!

magazines... did you know that CVS an Albertsons are as good for finding them, or better, than the typical magazine rack type businesses?
I asked Source Interlink Media about the Street Rodder Premium, because I never found a copy of the June 2012 /summer 2012 issue... and both Yasmin, Karen, and Tim filled me in
The issues go on sale in June and November, last week of each of those months, and some of my local CVS, Alberstons groceries, and Walgreens are the places to find Street Rodder Premium

2012 Ormskirk MotorFest - Read the official magazine here!
IF YOU'RE looking forward to this year's Ormskirk MotorFest then has Life On Cars got a treat for you!
For the second year running I've been given the green light to team up with Aintree Circuit Club, the event's organisers, and produce the only magazine which has their official backing, and it's packed full of news, features and information all about the motorsport-themed event on August 26.
More than twice as long as previous Life On Cars magazines, it's a delve behind the scenes of the full throttle event taking place in Ormskirk on the Bank Holiday Sunday which I hope you'll enjoy reading as much as I've enjoyed creating.
See you there...
P.S: If you missed the chance to read the official magazine on last year's show you can check it out here.

Life On Cars: The Champion motoring roadtest directory
THOSE of you who have been following Life On Cars for the past few years will probably have worked out it's about motoring by now.
Driving cars - and more importantly, writing about them - is what this blog's always been about, and it's always heartening to see from the number of hits that people do read it and enjoy it. Which is why, in a tradition started way back in 2010, I've always liked to give something back by creating special, online-only magazines packed with features, reviews and test drives.
This isn't one of them.
There will be no tenth issue of the imaginatively-titled Life On Cars magazine but what I've got instead is something I use to show the car makers, the PR people and the SMMT that all my test drives do actually make it into print - what I call the Champion motoring roadtest directory.
Readers familiar with the motoring pages of The Champion will be familiar with its pages but for those of you who don't live in Sefton and West Lancashire - which I know is a lot of you - it's possibly the first time you'll get to see a range of test drives and Life On Cars pieces as they've appeared in print. Covering everything from the Alfa Giulietta to the Volkswagen Polo GTI, it's an exhaustive look at almost all the cars I've driven over the past year.
Of course, Life On Cars is about more than just test drives and there's all sorts of stories and reviews on the way, including I hope, for the first time ever, coverage of the simply colossal Cholmondeley Pageant of Power later this month. If it's got horsepower and at least three wheels involved, it ticks all the right boxes in my book!
Until then however, feel free to see how a whole raft of cars fared when they got The Champion roadtest treatment...
