Chevrolet Announces New SS Performance Sedan

Will compete in 2013 NASCAR and arrive in showrooms as 2014 model

DETROIT – Chevrolet today announced the return of a V-8 powered, rear-wheel-drive
performance sedan to the U.S. lineup, the

Chevrolet SS. The SS will also be Chevrolet’s next NASCAR Sprint Cup racecar and will debut in its race configuration at the 2013 Daytona 500.


The limited production version of the Chevrolet SS will be a 2014 model and will arrive in dealer
showrooms in late 2013. It is the first time in 17 years that Chevrolet will offer a rear-wheel-drive
sedan for sale in the United States.

Chevrolet has a long history of using the SS (Super Sport) designation on high-performance
models of some of its most enduring nameplates. The SS designation first appeared in 1957 on
a Corvette prototype race car built under the guidance of Zora Arkus-Duntov with the plan to
enter it in the Le Mans 24-hour race.

The first production vehicle offered with an SS option was the 1961 Impala – 453 were built with
the performance upgrades which included a modified chassis and suspension, power brakes, a
steering column mounted tachometer and unique wheels and tires. The latest SS model in the

Chevrolet lineup is the fifth-generation Camaro, which debuted in 2010.  The Chevrolet SS will be a derivative of the award-winning global rear-wheel-drive architecture that spawns performance vehicles like Chevrolet Camaro and Holden’s upcoming VF Commodore. The much anticipated Australian-built car will benefit from significant technology advances which enhance overall performance.

Car Washing Tips & Tricks

The warm weather is the perfect time to give your car a good cleaning inside and out.

1.  Use a sponge or mitt designed for automotive  use a lamb's wool mitt is ideal.

2.  Start at the top of the vehicle and move down; (the bottom accumulates the most dirt, and
     starting at the top will reduce the possibility of dragging dirt to the other parts of the car).

3.  To avoid scratching your paint, repeatedly clean your wash rag and refill the bucket water if
      it's very dirty.

4.  Use a different wash rag foryour car than your tires.

5.  In the same manner that you washed from the top to the bottom, spray off the soap
     starting at the top and move down the vehicle.

6.  Spray the wheel wells thoroughly as well as underneath the vehicle to remove dirt and debris.

7.  Avoid water spotting by drying the car immediately with a chamois or a 100% cotton terry
     cloth towel.

8.  For finishing touches, a microfiber cloth works nicely.

- Wash your car in a cool, shady area to avoid streaking and to reduce water spotting.
-  Use car wash soap and not dish soap (some soaps can strip the wax and damage the finish).
-  Fill a large bucket with lots of water.  Dirt will settle to the bottom, cleaner water will
   stay at the top.
-  To remove stubborn stains such as insects, road tar, tree sap and bird droppings, try using
   undiluted car wash soap.  Using a sponge, apply the product full strength directly onto
   the spots, let penetrate for 3-5 minutes then wash off with water.

History of Saint Patrick

Little is known of Patrick's early life, though it is known that he was born in Roman Britain in the fourth century, into a wealthy Romano-British family. His father and grandfather were deacons in the Christian church in Ireland. At the age of sixteen, he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken captive to Ireland as a slave.[12] It is believed he was held somewhere on the west coast of Ireland, possibly Mayo, but the exact location is unknown. According to his Confession, he was told by God in a dream to flee from captivity to the coast, where he would board a ship and return to Britain. Upon returning, he quickly joined the Church in Auxerre in Gaul and studied to be a priest.[citation needed]

In 432, he again said that he was called back to Ireland, though as a bishop, to Christianise the Irish from their native polytheism. Irish folklore tells that one of his teaching methods included using the shamrock to explain the Christian doctrine of the Trinity to the Irish people. After nearly thirty years of evangelism, he died on 17 March 461, and according to tradition, was buried at Downpatrick. Although there were other more successful missions to Ireland from Rome, Patrick endured as the principal champion of Irish Christianity and is held in esteem in the Irish church.

Saint Patrick's Day (The Festival of Patrick); is a cultural and religious holiday celebrated on 17 March. It commemorates Saint Patrick, the most commonly recognized of the patron saints of Ireland, and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland.  It is observed by the Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion (especially the Church of Ireland), the Eastern Orthodox Church and Lutheran Church. Saint Patrick's Day was made an official feast day in the early seventeenth century, and has gradually become a celebration of Irish culture in general.

 The day is generally characterized by the attendance of church services, wearing of green attire and the lifting of Lenten restrictions on eating, and drinking alcohol, which is often proscribed during the rest of the season.

Saint Patrick's Day is a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Newfoundland and Labrador and in Montserrat. It is also widely celebrated by the Irish diaspora, especially in places such as Great Britain, Canada, the United States, Argentina, Australia, and New Zealand, among others. Today, St. Patrick's Day is probably the most widely celebrated saint's day in the world.

Challenging the midsize status quo.    
In 2008, GM released the seventh generation Malibu and turned the midsize car world on its head. Universally praised for its modern styling and beautiful interior, the Malibu was a hit. Not content to merely rely on its past awards and allow competitors to catch up, GM is introducing the world to the all-new, eighth-generation Chevrolet Malibu. With enhanced style, improved interior and a groundbreaking new powertrain, the all-new 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco is poised to add a big dose of spice and efficiency to the midsize sedan segment.

The Malibu Eco (MSRP $25,235) is the first model of the new eighth-generation Malibu lineup. Designed to stand out, the 2013 Malibu features a wider stance (two inches wider) than the model it replaces. The powerdome hood and integrated rear spoiler add a more aggressive feel. Further enhancing the sporty feel of the exterior, the Malibu has been given a coupe-like silhouette and interesting details like the Camaro-inspired taillamps. With Chevrolet’s dual-port grille, large, swept-back headlamps and standard 17-inch alloy wheels, the Malibu brings an athletic sensibility to the midsize market. A segment first, the exterior of the Malibu Eco is equipped with an active shutter system that automatically closes at speed to reduce aerodynamic drag.

The new Malibu Eco is the first Chevrolet vehicle equipped with the fuel-saving eAssist™ technology. The eAssist system is teamed with an efficient and lightweight Ecotec 2.4-liter direct-injected four-cylinder engine that produces 184 hp. The Malibu also uses a next-generation six-speed automatic transmission. The eAssist system uses power stored in an air-cooled lithium-ion battery to provide an electrical boost when needed, optimizing engine and transmission performance. The system uses regenerative braking to provide the battery with 15kW of electricity. The 115V battery and 15kW motor-generator unit can provide a boost of up to 15 hp during heavy acceleration. The eAssist system also allows the use of electricity when stopped, instead of gasoline, by way of a smooth and automatic engine start-stop system. GM estimates that this system will allow the Malibu Eco to achieve 37 mpg highway – better than any non-hybrid midsize sedan.

The all-new interior of the 2013 Malibu has been equally enhanced. The cabin is roomier, quieter and more comfortable than its predecessor. Thanks in part to the wider wheelbase, Chevrolet was able to equip the Malibu with a dual cockpit design that is three inches wider than the previous generation car. The new Malibu features metallic, chrome or wood interior accents located around the shifter, on the door panels and steering wheel, and around the center stack and instrument cluster. The Malibu is also equipped with an ice blue ambient lighting system that bathes the cabin in a soft glow. The ambient lighting complements the ice blue illumination on the center stack dials and along the instrument panel. Contrasting French stitching, strategic applications of noise-deadening materials and soft-touch surfaces help to enhance the Malibu’s refinement.

To make sure the 2013 Malibu Eco handles as well as it looks, it has been engineered to deliver ride and handling that are beyond best in class, aiming for parity with more expensive sports sedans. A solid body structure that’s 20 percent stiffer than previous models allows for precise tuning and dynamic vehicle control. The suspension is composed of a MacPherson strut front end with a multi-link setup in the rear with aluminum components and a hollow stabilizer bar to reduce weight. The new Malibu also features large, 11.7-inch ventilated disc brakes in front, and 11.5-inch solid rear brakes, which are expected to deliver class-leading stopping distances.

An isolated engine cradle working in tandem with the stiff body structure helps keep noise and vibration from entering the car’s cabin. This, along with features like acoustic-laminated glass, makes the new Malibu the quietest car Chevrolet has ever made. To further isolate occupants from the harshness outside the windows, 16 expanding-foam acoustic baffles are placed in strategic locations throughout the car. When the car body is being passed through the ovens in the paint shop, the heated foam expands to fill the body panels, providing acoustic insulation for the cabin.

The all-new 2013 Malibu Eco was not only designed to be the most refined and best performing midsize sedan on the market, it was designed to be one of the safest as well. With active safety features like four-wheel ABS and StabiliTrak electronic stability control with Traction Control system, the Malibu will help prevent many accidents before they happen. The Malibu’s stiff body structure and eight standard airbags protect occupants during an accident while the OnStar system with Automatic Crash Response will alert emergency personnel immediately following a collision. Vehicle Profile: The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic LZ

A big deal in a small package. This year, Chevrolet is going to show the world that big things can come in small packages. The all-new 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is big design, big fun and big practicality, all situated in a small footprint.

Good looks and a great interior are only half the story for the 2012 Sonic. Available with your choice of a 1.8-liter Ecotec^® four-cylinder with Variable Valve Timing (VVT), 138-hp and 125 lb/ft of torque, or a turbocharged 1.4-liter Ecotec^® four-cylinder with VVT making 138 hp and 148 lb/ft, the Sonic LZ has as much “go” as it does “show.”

If you choose the 1.8-liter, you have the choice of five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic. The 1.4-liter turbo is initially available exclusively with a six-speed manual; the choice of a six-speed automatic is planned for the 1.4-liter turbo later in the model year. Expect up to 40 mpg from the 1.4-liter turbo on the highway.

Once the road beneath the Sonic begins to go twisty, drivers can feel assured that suspension will keep things in check. A MacPherson strut front suspension, combined with the high level of body stiffness and rigidity, allowed Sonic engineers to fine tune the suspension with extreme precision. Those same tuning engineers also work on the Chevrolet Corvette. The result is ride and handling on the Sonic that feels direct and balanced, providing confidence during a broad range of driving conditions.

• Keep your cool. Let go of road rage. That means taking a deep breath when someone cuts you off rather than honking your horn or tailgating. It also means slowing down and steering clear if you see a driver acting erratically. Avoiding a driver that is irrational will keep you and your family from being in any danger.
• Follow the speed limit. We know you’re in a hurry, but slowing down could save your life. According to the NHTSA, speeding is a contributing factor in 31 percent of fatal crashes. Male drivers age 15 to 24 are particularly at risk—37 to 39 percent involved in fatal crashes were speeding.
• Stay grounded in a skid. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) applies anti-lock brakes (ABS) to individual tires to help keep your car going straight in a slide. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requires all 2012 vehicles to include ESC, an improvement estimated to save up to 9,600 lives.
• Monitor your tire pressure. Variation of temperatures can deflate tires and reduce tire traction, which can cause you to lose control of your car. But Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) alert you when a tire loses air on models certain models. Check your owner’s manual.
• Know what to do after a collision. After a crash you should unlock doors, turn on hazard lights and turn off thecar. If you have a car with our Intelligent Crash-Response System (ICRS), [4] it do these things for you—even cutting power to the fuel pump.

 

 

Emergency Kit for Your Vehicle

An emergency can happen at anytime. However, it seems like emergencies happen at the worst times-like in the middle of winter. There are certain items you should have in your car to make sure you're prepared for car-trouble emergencies. You never know when that unexpected dead battery will rear its ugly head or if you'll need a flashlight to change a tire in the iddle of the night. Here are a few things to keep in your vehicle's emergency kit that will help give you peace of mind.

1. Flashlight & Extra Batteries - a flashlight is a must if you have a breakdown in the dark  and need to look under the
    hood or find something in your vehicle it's a handy item to keep in your vehicle  Plus keep a set of extra batteries in your
    kit as well.

2.  Blanket - This is a must-have no matter where you live.  Nights can get chilly in warmer climates too.

3.  Duct Tape - It's been said duct tape can fix anythig.

4.  First Aid Kit - You never know what might happen when you're on the road.  so, be prepared for anything.

5.  Hand Warmers - Since they're so small, they're easy to throw into an emergency kit or glove box.  They come in handy

     when you're trying to change a tire.

6.  Battery Cables - We've all been there-- hearing that click when you turn your key and the batter is ded.  Keep battery

     cables in your trunk for just that reason.

7.  Windshield Scraper - If you live in an area that sees frost and snow during the winter, be sure you're prepared for it.

8.  Bottles of Water - For those unexpected times when you're waiting for roadside assistance, or maybe  you have a thirsty

     child in the vehicle it's a good idea to keep a bottle of water in the car.

Plus additional items such as:  chains, a small knife, energy bars, watergloves, small shovel, waterproof matches, a bag of sand kitty litter to help provide traction if your car is stuck in the snow, and never forget your cell phone.  A little preparation goes a long way to keep your car running smoothly during the winter months. Not only will the right tools and maintenance protect you and your car from the elements, but they will also keep you safe.

Deer Mating Season Is Here:

Fall means a substantial increase in deer-to-vehicle collisions.  These accidents can cause serious injury and damage.

According to a leading insurer, such collisions have risen more than 20% since 2008. For the last four years.   Each year, collisions with deer kill about 200 people, and the average cost of damage is $3,103. Deer accidents occur most frequently between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., but herds are also very active in the early morning. 

Remember that deer typically travel in groups, so if you see one, there’s a very good chance more will pop out. It’s mating season, so bucks will be more aggressive than usual. If you should strike a deer, keep in mind that they can be dangerous, especially when injured.

A collision with a deer is covered by auto insurance provided you have comprehensive or, other-than Collision auto coverage. In an effort to save on insurance costs many people have cancelled their comprehensive insurance.  Be sure to check your policy and give your insurance company a call and protect yourself and add the coverage if needed.
