Forget your Kawasaki, what you want is Ford's fast icon

HOW many bikers does it take to change a lightbulb?

That's not only not a joke, but something I genuinely don't know the answer to. But if you want to find out, chances are the best place to find out would be a pub in Lydiate on a Wednesday night.

So popular is The Scotch Piper with fans of anything two-wheeled that it's where Merseyside Police take their own motorbikes when they want to chat to riders, and politicians popped there during the general election campaign in their efforts to canvass “the biker vote”. I love it, but it's definitely a biker thing, with cars playing for a distant second place.

But last week was different, because I decided to forgo the driving and arrive shotgun in a car so iconic that even hardened bikers stop to stare at it. The Ford Capri 280 Brooklands.

I've never been a fan of Capris - and the car's owner knows it - because I'm a child of the Nineties, a time when the swoopy coupe wasn't a cherished classic but an unwanted banger on a council estate, more Boycie and Del than Bodie and Doyle. It doesn't matter how many reruns of The Professionals I watch, I just don't get the Ford Capri.

But the Brooklands wowed everyone. In the half-light of a spring sunset it looked gorgeous, and bikers kept leaving their Kawasakis behind to pore over the fast Ford. It's a sports car sensation. It's a motor that makes you feel good about motoring.

It's also an absolute giggle when you get it going, as the car's owner decided to prove when pulling away from the pub. You can't do a wheelie in a car, but in a Ford Capri you can give it a bootful of throttle and get a glorious kick of oversteer from the smoking rear tyres. We also got the chance to find out whether it's faster down a winding country road than a Mini Cooper, but for legal reasons I couldn't possibly comment!

Would I buy one? No, but I'm glad I know plenty of people who do.

NEW FACE FOR MYVI 2010 ?

New face of PERODUA MYVI 2010? Looks great but I dont know is this just a potret or real car will be lunch next.... Between, these are my impressions of the next generation Perodua MyVi. The based car was Kia Soul.

2011 ATOMIK FIAT 500 ABARTH

Atomic attempt to handle the Fiat 500 Abarth will be converted into electrical power. Atomik’s 500 features a bunch of fancy tech under its carbon fiber skin, high performance LiFePO4 batterie, brushless synchronous motors, two new transmissions (resulting in permanent AWD), a ceramic heater, and a carbon/Nomex rear chassis.

Several cars in the power of change, power at the front comes in at 80 kW and a very electric 840 Nm (619 lb-ft), while the rear engine makes the same power and a silly 1,710 Nm (1,261 lb-ft). Combined, that is good for 160 kW (215 hp) and an unadjusted 2,550 Nm (1,880 lb-ft) split 33/67 front to rear.

Atomic really tried to make small cars in accordance with the city of density, environmentally friendly cars, energy efficient electricity but agile. The electrified 500 should hit 100 km/h in under 5 seconds with a top speed of around 200 km/h (electric cutoff is at 180 km/h), while providing a range of 200 km (124 miles).

The Green River Peacock

"Hey, look at that!" It's still the early part of the ride. Mark Canizaro and I left my place a bit after 8:00 AM, paused to refuel at the Black Diamond Bakery and have now just rolled over the tiny bridge spanning the Green River Gorge. Eventually the day will be Mark's longest ride this year. We'll have lunch in Buckley and climb into the wind up the Carbon River Valley before taking a long loop back home. We never know what we'll find on these rides, but there is always at least one unexpected thing.

Today's thing is a peacock. An Indian Blue Peacock to be precise. This is why we bring cameras on our rides. While Wikipedia tells me that peacocks display their tail plumage to attract mates, I don't think this peacock was getting fresh with me. It was clear to us that he was trying to make himself look big and scary so we'd go away.

We took our pictures, thanked the bird and went away.
